Steelhead October Caddis Fly of the week: Steelhead October Caddis
This fly is considered the Great Pumpkin of our western waterways! It is almost as large as a stonefly and hatches in the later month of September and into October. Adults survive for a couple of weeks after they hatch, and trout can are quite eager to devour them. The Caddis is blown out of the creek side vegetation and onto the water below. Luckily, we have very little wait for the wind to create such a situation here in Idaho! This fly, skated, in the film or flats can produce heart-stopping action! The fish will certainly key in on this large and very noticeable meal.
