The Flesh Fly
Fly of the week: The Flesh Fly
This fly is not to be mistaken for the flesh-eating fly, rather, an imitation of decaying Salmon flesh. I know it sounds absurd, but don’t be fooled, this fly really works! This fly is tied exactly as you would tie a bunny leech. The only real difference is in the color of the bunny strips used and a weighted head. This fly is a most effective pattern when used in areas with a denser population of spawning and decaying Salmon. Trout, Salmon and Steelhead will often key in on this tasty morsel and are eager to pick up a loose piece as it drifts by. Tied in black, green and purple, it becomes the bunny leech that is so effective in our local waters. Simply tie the tail to the hook, wind the bunny strip towards the eye, tie off the head and you have the flesh fly. This is a simple and effective fly and one of my personal favorites to use.
