The Sheep Creek Special Fly of the week: The Sheep Creek special
This week’s fly is the Sheep Creek Special. When I was but a lad, there was this grumpy old man that lived in my hometown of Jerome. By the time I came to know George Biggs he was more than that to me. Just the same he was and still is a local fishing legend. He developed flies for all the still water fisheries he loved so much. I later found out he was so grumpy because he wasn’t fishing. We once held an auction at a church fundraiser. George had given himself to a day of fishing including all the flies. Elsie his sweet wife would provide the food. This was the highlight of the evening and this day of fishing went for several hundred dollars. This was in the mid seventies! It was then that I realized just how special this old guy really was. Unfortunately, George passed away before I had an opportunity to really spend much time with him. This weeks fly highlight is in his honor. It is because of fly developers like George, that our industry remains strong and vibrant. Here’s to all those wonderful pioneers of fly angling we Love so much.
Thanks George!
