George's Brown Stone
| George's Brown Stone |
This weeks fly of the week is the George's Brown Stone. It was developed by George Anderson and is one of my favorite winter time nymphs. It has a perfect segmented body that is formed by a weave. The weave can be a little difficult to learn but is very effective on numerous flies once you get it mastered. This fly is a great golden stone imitation and when tied in other colors such as black and orange for the Salmon Fly or in tan and olive for a Damsel nymph body it is equally as deadly. It has an underbody of lead wire and if you flatten it some when the fly is finished it has a great profile. The tail can be substituted with goose biots and for the legs you can use partridge rather than the Muskrat guard hairs if you wish.
Here is the recipe
