The Clouser Minnow
The clouser minnow Fly of the week: The Clouser Minnow
This week we have decided to spotlight the popular Clouser minnow. Bob Clouser developed this pattern in the mid eighties as a baitfish fly. I’m sure he had no idea that it would become one of the most popular and mimicked flies of all time. Left Kreh, you have all heard of Lefty right? No pun intended. Claims to have caught eighty-six species of fish on this marvelous little gem. I for one am not going to dispute this claim. Bob found that by tying the fly with dumbbell eyes the hook would ride inverted. This allowed the fly to be fished at or near the bottom and avoiding those nasty snags. The deer hair was found to continue movement in just about any retrieve giving it that baitfish dart. What he invented was a fly that would catch fish in just about any situation. Tie some up in any colors you can dream possible. Thanks for the innovation Bob.
